Recently, the Administration of Culture and Tourism, the Administration of Education, and the Administration of Human Resources and Social Security of China launched the first general knowledge training course for inheritors of Tibetan opera at Tibet University as part of the 2018 Intangible Cultural Inheritor "Study and Training" Program. 43 inheritors of Tibetan opera from 21 folk opera troupes will participate in the one-month training course.

The training course is being undertaken by the School of Arts at Tibet University. Experts, scholars, and inheritors in the field of Tibetan opera have been invited to teach on subjects pertaining mainly to Tibetan opera theory as well as Tibetan history, folk music, and folk customs, with an emphasis on strengthening stage performance posture and vocal rhythms through personal examples as well as verbal instruction.

Pema Tsering, vice president of Tibet University, said that through this training course, it will be possible to establish a platform for Tibetan opera inheritors to both study and promote Tibetan opera. At the same time, it can improve their theoretical knowledge, broaden their cultural horizons, and improve their cultural literacy.
