Tibet to complete integrated transport system

CHENGDU, Nov. 16 (Kangba TV) - Nowadays, the underdeveloped infrastructure is the main factor impeding the economic and social development of Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), especially in the farming and pasturing areas.

However, in recent five years, as the development of the integrated transport system, including roads, railways and airlines, TAR has laid a solid foundation for participating in the Belt & Road initiative, and for connecting Tibet with outside world.

In the past five years, the total mileage of road has increased by 33.7% compared with that of 2010. With the progressed projects like Lhasa-Nyingchi high-grade road, Shigatse section of Qinghai-Tibet railway, the basic road grid covering all the region has completed.

As the second “Road of Heaven” after Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Sichuan-Tibet railway starts from Chengdu of Sichuan Province and ends at Lhasa.

81% of the 1,838km long railway is composed of bridges and tunnels. By now, construction of Chengdu-Ya’an section of Sichuan-Tibet Railway has been started in the end of 2014, while Lhasa-Nyingchi section started constructing on June 2015.
