Tibet plants 165 thousand mu of non-commercial forests in 5 years

According to the Forestry Department of Tibet Autonomous Region, ever since the protection project of natural forests has begun, Tibet has completely stopped the commercial logging of natural forests in industrial areas and accelerated the building of non-commercial forests.

During the “12th Five-Year Plan” period, Tibet has planted a total of 165 thousand mu of non-commercial forests. Thanks to the government efforts, local natural forests have get effectively protected and presented a restorative growth.

Tibet’s protection project of natural forests are mainly located in Markham, Jomda, and Gonjo conties of Chamdo City, covering the upstream of Yangtze River and mid- to upstream of Yellow River.

While increasing the efforts for constructing non-commercial forests, Tibet has also expanded its forestry management personnel. In 2015 alone, Tibet has added 5,165 forest rangers in the counties mentioned above in a bid to better protect and manage 19.15 million mu of forests.
