A new Tibetan opera created by the Tibetan Opera Troupe of the Tibet Autonomous Region was recently selected for re-evaluation to acquire continual national fund, China Tibet News reported.

The selection was organized by the National Endowment for the Arts. As part of a national project that has already funded 81 major stage productions, the opera “Dorshung’s Spring” won the re-evaluation qualification for further funding and to receive the right to broadcast videos on the National Endowment for the Arts’ official website.

“Dorshung’s Spring” takes the Dorshung manor as an epitome of the development of Tibet before and after Tibet's peaceful liberation in 1951. Taking a dramnyen as the thread, it tells a story of the changing fates of the manor master Nyamgyal Phuntsok and the artist Pedron. The opera focuses on the theme of serfs who lived an abject life in old Tibet, became masters of their own society after 1951, participated in Tibet’s development, and lived a happy life under the leadership of the Communist Party and People’s Government.

“Dorshung’s Spring” adopts all the art forms of the 600-year-old Tibetan opera including singing, dancing and dramnyen playing.
