China Tibetannet Five young women scientists receive awards from the "Chinese Young Women in Science Fellowship" and Drolga, 34, the youngest award winner from the Tibet Autonomous Region, was recognized for her research on the climate of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
"I am just one of many scientists engaged in the research of weather in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, but I am proud of my work," said Drolga, senior engineer with the Tibetan Plateau Atmospheric Environment Research Institute.
Drolga said the plateau has played an important role in global climate change and has been a factor in weather disasters. The research undertaken by Drolga and her colleagues can help improve disaster monitoring and cut economic losses.
The scientist also said a better understanding of the plateau weather and its influence on climate change in China could help vastly improve weather forecasts.
