Lhasa Shoton Festival around the corner

The 2016 Lhasa Shoton Festival will be held from September 1 to 7, Xinhua reported.  

Tibetan opera performances will be presented in Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lamas.  

Rapa Tersing, head of the administration office of Norbulingka, said Tibetan opera will be a highlight during the festival.  

Every year, around 200 actors from art troupes in Lhasa, Lhoka, Shigatse and other areas within the Tibet Autonomous Region gather together and perform in Norbulingka.

Norbulingka meaning "treasure garden", is located in the center of Lhasa. It was built in 1740s,and was named as a key cultural relics protection site in 1988. Now it is an public park as well as a museum.  

This year, during the Shoton Festival, no commercials, no vehicles except for safety, emergency and handicapped people, are allowed to enter the park. Companies or individuals are prohibited setting up tents in the park.  

The Shoton Festival usually lasts for 7 days, and 200 thousand people are expected to have fun in the Norbulingka.
