China Tibetannet By the end of May, 8,311 students in Tibet have been aided by 82.9 million yuan (about 10.3625 million US dollars) helping-study loan by the state government.
Tenzin Choeta, a 22-year-old Tibetan student will graduate from junior class of Tibet University Literature Institute. Three years before, when he received the information note for college, he was suffering from being lack of tuition fee. It is the helping-study loan from state government making him finish his university study.
Tenzin Choeta said that in last three years, every month he could only receive 100 yuan (about 12.5 US dollars) from his parents, all the other cost were aided by the helping-study loan. He said that 8 from 34 students in his class had applied for the loan.
In 2000, the State Council started to launch the policy of helping-study loan for ensuring the needy students to enter college for study. Currently, there are five colleges in Tibet receiving the permission for enjoying the helping-study loan including Tibet University, Tibet Institute for Nationalities, Tibetan Medicine Institute, Tibet Farming & Pasturing Institute and Lhasa Normal School
